Rome with its 2750 years is, among the European capitals, the most ancient living city

Rome, the Eternal City, keeps all the signs of its civilizations, from the Etruscan to the Roman, from the Caesars to the Emperors, from the Christian Era to Renaissance courts, from the Baroque art to the squares, the fountains, the villas which give Rome an evocative and fascinating character.

For 2000 years this has also been the capital of Christianity, where millions of pilgrims come to receive the Pope’s benediction.

In a few square miles in Rome by walking you can travel through 2700 years. After being the capital of the entire ancient known world, Rome has also been the city of Michelangelo, Caravaggio and Bernini, who left here their masterpieces, the Sistine Chapel and St.Peter’s square, Trevi fountain, etc.

Listing the main monuments from this huge amount of masterpieces is absolutely impossible: for example  the Forum, the Roman theaters and thermal baths, the baroque fountains, and illustrating in a few words the Rome of the Caesars, of 15th, 16th and 17th centuries and so on, is also impossible because of its vast culture.

Rome has also “real” places, where people live generation after generation with their customs, their languages, their problems. You can find this peculiar character in today’s Trastevere, the popular area where people like to live in the street, in the trattorie, pizzerie and botteghe (small artisan shops).

Besides the well-known monuments, any corner in Rome may reserve a surprise to the visitor coming from a far. In summer any square in Rome becomes a stage where open shows take place.  Nobody can ever get bored here.
